Cuban Torticas de Moron recipe - Sugar Cookies with Lime

Cuban torticas de moron

These simple but tasty sugar cookies were originally created in city of Morón, in the province Ciego de Ávila in Central Cuba. There are a few different versions of this cookie, including those you can buy online from Miami.

  • Prep Time: 10 minutes

  • Cook Time: 25 minutes

  • Total Time: 35 minutes



1 cup sugar
1 cup shortening
3 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 tsp grated lime rind



Mix shortening and sugar. Add flour, a tablespoon at a time incorporating well each time. Add the grated lime rind. When thoroughly mixed, spread with a rolling pin. Cut the dough in small 2" diameter rounds and shape with hands to form a patty. Place on cookie sheet covered with wax or parchment paper and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes. Yields about two dozen cookies.
